About Alan Peto
Thanks for wanting to learn more about me. I enjoy being a writer, researcher, and designer on various topics. However in 2011, I decided it was time to focus on one topic exclusively, and for me that was Buddhism. My website will now become the home for all my writings and creations as it relates to Buddhism. I hope that you can find some answers here that you could not have elsewhere. Why Focus on Buddhism?
Ever since I was a little kid, Buddhism has always interested me, so it felt natural to devote my energy to this. It doesn’t matter if you consider Buddhism a religion, philosophy, or way of life, I believe there is something we can all learn from it. The core of Buddhism is pure peace and freedom from the suffering we all experience. There is nobody that holds you responsible in Buddhism besides yourself. Because of that, it fascinates me. Buddhism is about making you a better person, and in turn that helps make the world a better place.
Which Buddhism School Do I Belong To?
I have always been particularly drawn to the traditional Theravada teachings because I believe Buddha Siddhartha Gautama (the founder of Buddhism) said it best. However I also enjoy some of the later writings (and thoughts) that are found in the Mahayana teachings such as Zen. This puts me between two major Buddhism schools, which is why I am unaffiliated with either, yet feel this is a good thing. That we can take what we need from different teachings and apply it to our own enlightenment.
My Experience
I’ve always enjoyed writing since I was in elementary school (where I wrote a few books for myself), and eventually spent six years in Journalism in Junior and Senior High School. In addition to writing, art has always been a love of mine. Since 1992, I’ve been doing some sort of graphic design work (print, web, and other media). In 2011, I received my degree in Graphic Design.
